Message from The Honourable Kate Jones MP, Minister for Innovation and Tourism Industry Development and Minister for the Commonwealth Games
As Ministerial Champion for the International Education and Training Industry, I am pleased to support Study Cairns in its efforts to grow international education and training in one of Queensland’s most sought after and colourful regions.
The Cairns region boasts an enviable lifestyle with two UNESCO World Heritage listed sites on its doorstep, the iconic Great Barrier Reef and the Daintree Rainforest. In Cairns these attractions become the classroom where visitors and students alike can learn and engage with the local assets.
Cairns is a great place to study. It is Queensland at its best being affordable and providing a safe place to live and learn in a multicultural community. International students, in turn, offer a range of social and cultural benefits to Cairns through increased cultural capital and diversity and greater international collaboration.
We are delighted to bring the 2018 IET Summit to Cairns for the first time from 28-29 June 2018.
The Queensland Government is working with Study Cairns to attract international students to Queensland through its whole-of-government international education and training strategy.
The International Education and Training Strategy to Advance Queensland was released in November 2016. It focuses on four strategic imperatives — promoting Queensland internationally, enhancing the student experience, strengthening our regions and connecting the international education and training industry.
Initiatives to support the strategy are being developed to benefit all education and training providers, big and small, private and public – right across the state from Coolangatta to Cairns. The recent opening of the Cairns Student Hub demonstrates our commitment to the international student experience providing a welcoming space for international students to come and seek support.
The Queensland Government will continue working with Study Cairns to promote the diverse study opportunities Cairns has to offer.
The Honourable Kate Jones MP
Minister for Innovation and Tourism Industry Development and Minister for the Commonwealth Games
