Study Cairns Executive Board
Study Cairns is a not-for-profit organisation established in 1997 and is headquartered in Cairns, Queensland. Study Cairns is the lead agency for International Education and Training (IET) in the Cairns region. It is a collaborative international education network and marketing cluster which is dedicated to supporting its members to grow international education and training opportunities for the Cairns region.
Study Cairns Executive Board comprises; President (Carol Doyle), Vice President (Jodie Duignan-George), Treasurer (Martin Lock), Secretary (Tammy Angel). These committee members have excellent knowledge of the educational industry both domestically and internationally.
President – Carol Doyle
CAROL DOYLE has held the President’s role for the past six years, as well as serving on the Study Cairns Management Committee for a total of seven years.
Carol also manages her own business You Study International, a Cairns-based and distance education college providing Australian Nationally Accredited Training in business, training and education.
Carol is a member of IETAC-Q and at the invitation of Trade & Investment Qld, has represented the region in the development of the recently released International Education & Training Strategy to Advance Queensland.
Carol is incredibly passionate about growing International Education for the TNQ region.

Vice President – Jodie Duignan-George
JODIE DUIGNAN-GEORGE is the Associate Vice-Chancellor, Cairns and Far North Region, at CQUniversity. Jodie joined CQUniversity three years ago with the purpose of establishing a CQUniversity Campus in the heart of the Cairns CBD.
With a background in Social Science and close to 20 years experience working in higher education, Jodie has a broad knowledge of issues facing the sector. Jodie has a keen interest in community development with particular expertise in business development. She is a member of a number of local and national boards and committees.
Jodie has served on the Study Cairns Management Committee for the past eight years, the past four as Vice President. Jodie is deeply committed to the growth of International Education in the Cairns region.

Treasurer – Martin Lock
MARTIN LOCK has been working in the Education industry for a decade, predominantly working in the field of International Education.
Having started his career in education at a Queensland based University, he moved over to the Vocational Education sector, working for one of the largest Private VET institutions in Australia. Six years ago Martin joined TAFE to help with Partnerships, Sales and Business Development.
Martin’s current role is varied but includes relationship development of School, ELICOS and University to TAFE pathways, management & direction of Sales & Recruitment for TAFE. A key focus is on diversity of students across the six regions and building the international student experience within these regions.

Secretary – Tammy Angel
TAMMY ANGEL is the Manager/Owner of Cairns Sharehouse, the main provider of student accommodation in Cairns. Cairns Sharehouse is a family owned local business who have been providing quality, student accommodation in Cairns for over 15 years.
Tammy works collaboratively with all major educational institutions to ensure the experience of the student is memorable and positive, not just when inside the classroom.
As a support service, Tammy can offer a different perspective to Study Cairns (outside of an educational background) and has been a member of the Study Cairns Board for over seven years, with extensive experience in customer service, marketing, event management and logistics.

HAMISH ALLARDICE brings a variety of skills from hospitality, community building and sustainable business development to Study Cairns. He has over 20 years experience working in the tourism industry including hostel and resort management, and has held the position of General Manager at Cairns Student Lodge for the past 18 months.
Hamish has worked for various ‘not for profit’ organisations since 2006 holding a number of Executive Board positions and enjoys serving the community.

MELISSA BANKS has over twenty-five years of experience in multiple education sectors and service providers. She has held senior positions in three Australian Universities, provided consultancy services in international education services, and led major research projects in her capacity as Head of research at IDP Education Pty Ltd.
Melissa has contributed to national and international forums and publications throughout her professional career with 17 articles located on the Database of Research in International Education. She is best known for her work in global student mobility, outcomes and impacts of international education in Australia, student retention and transition, Australian transnational tertiary education, and institutional internationalisation strategies.
Melissa recently commenced work at James Cook University with a mandate to develop and drive the University’s international strategy and is looking forward to helping grow the sector in Cairns.

JANINE BOWMAKER is the Managing Director of Banora International Group (BIG), an Australia-wide business with its head office based in Cairns. BIG centres around the International Student market providing various service orientated divisions including the coordination and facilitation of homestay, farmstay, study tours, edutourism, volunteering and traineeships.
Janine has been a member of Study Cairns for 11 years, a member of the Management Committee for nine years and held the role as President for three years. She also sits on several tourism boards.
Janine is extremely passionate about tourism and the international education sector and committed to growing this industry for the Cairns region.

DANIELLE CAREY is a former Manager of Study Brisbane, where she delivered initiatives to market Brisbane as an international education destination and improve the experience of Brisbane’s international students.
Her career has also seen her address TNQ’s skilling needs and youth unemployment as Regional Planner for the Department of Education and Training, manage Townsville’s Emerging Leaders Program and promote International Relations and Multicultural Business Development for the Brisbane Lord Mayor’s Office.
She is currently assisting with Policy and Economic Development for Advance Cairns.

LYN CARLYLE-JACOB, a graduate of Auckland University, is currently working in the ELICOS sector as International Advisor for Cairns Language Centre. Lyn holds a CELTA and TAE 40110 in addition to a number of other qualifications. She has taught in ELICOS and VET for a number of Cairns.
Prior to this she worked in Australia and overseas in a number of community and development positions both within government and corporate management and as a consultant. Many of these roles were in small business development, women’s projects and microfinance, both in Australia and overseas.
Lyn is a long term resident of Cairns and is familiar with the local VET and ELICOS sector.

Linda Forbes is the Manager of Education Queensland International (EQI), Cairns & Far North Queensland, based in the FNQ Regional Office of the Department of Education and Training (DET). EQI Cairns and FNQ has been a member of Study Cairns since 2003 and Linda has been a member of the Study Cairns Executive for a number of years.
Linda is a graduate of UQ and has extensive Secondary School Teaching and Guidance and Counselling experience in Queensland government schools. She has also worked as a Secondary School Deputy Principal and Careers Counsellor at JCU. Linda has university qualifications in Commerce and owned and operated a business in general aviation and tourism in Cairns.
Since 2003, Linda has combined her business, teaching and guidance and counseling skills to manage the EQI International Education Programs for the FNQ Region of the Department of Education and Training. These programs include the International Student Program in state primary and high schools, group Study Tour School Programs and Professional Visits and the department’s Temporary Residents Admissions Centre (TRAC) programs for Tourist Visa, Bridging Visa and Dependant Students whose parents are studying with international education institutions in Cairns.

Joy Jenkins is the Academic Operations Officer on the Cairns Campus, CQ University. She joined CQ University 12 months ago after spending 20+ years at James Cook University. She has extensive experience in higher education, and has broad knowledge of student service delivery. She was instrumental in developing many of the student services that currently exist today on the Cairns Campus, and has more recently expanded her interests into academic operations at CQ University.
Joy’s background has primarily been in the Learning and Teaching arena and she is passionate about educational opportunities for all students. This passion is shared with developing educational opportunities in the far northern region and as such is committed to supporting the growth of international education in this region.

Cinde Manoel works in International Student Recruitment with EIM International Training. She has been working in the international education sector for the past two years and truly enjoys learning all aspects of the international education market.
Her role with EIM includes marketing to agents onshore and offshore and participaning in industry events and government workshops. In the USA, Cinde served on the Sachse, Texas Chamber of Commerce board and holds a Bachelor of Arts with a major in Public Relations and a minor in Business Administration.
Cinde is passionate about promoting Cairns as a great destination for those wanting to study in Australia.

SARAH MORT is co-founder and Director of MiHaven Pty Ltd. MiHaven is a social enterprise established in Cairns and has been operating since 2011. The company’s operations include construction, property development and training. In early 2017 MiHaven identified a gap in the market for high quality purpose built student accommodation in Cairns and now has two student accommodation facilities under construction providing 84 individual bed suites for international students studying in Cairns opening Feb 2018.
Sarah has had an expansive career in the property development industry with an Hons Bachelor degree in Town + Regional Planning (Melbourne University), post graduate degree in Urban Economics (UTS) and is a Graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Director’s.
Sarah has extensive industry experience on both company and government Boards in Australia.

SUE WICKS is the Director of Admissions and Marketing at Trinity Anglican School. Her previous roles include Manager of the Mount Isa Chamber of Commerce (Commerce North West) and as the Graduate Recruiter for Mount Isa Mines. She also has her own consulting business, Wick-Ed Consulting, which assists small business with Human Resources services, policies and procedures.
Having moved from Mount Isa in 2016, Sue has had experience working with boards and voluntary organisations, including: President and board member of Mount Isa Tourism Association; Board Member, Secretary and then Manager of Mount Isa Chamber of Commerce (now known as Commerce North West); President, Secretary, Treasurer and Committee Chair for Zonta Club of Mount Isa.
Sue is keen to be involved with Study Cairns to provide additional representation of the secondary school sector in attracting long term international students, and working with industry groups to promote Cairns as a region.
