Skyrail Rainforest Cableway
Skyrail Rainforest Cableway, Cairns Australia, is a world first in environmental tourism taking you on an amazing experience over Australia’s World Heritage listed Tropical Rainforest canopy and deep into the forest.
The Skyrail experience, spanning 7.5kms over pristine
rainforest, allows you to explore the wonders of an ancient tropical rainforest and learn about one of the most botanically fascinating and diverse areas on earth.
Gliding just metres above the rainforest canopy in comfortable six-person gondola cabins, the Skyrail journey immerses you in an intimate rainforest experience where you’ll see, hear, smell and become part of the tropical rainforest environment.
A Skyrail Experience will take approximately 1½ hours one way, or 2-2½ hours return.
Your Skyrail experience will commence or conclude at either the Caravonica or Kuranda, depending on your direction of travel.
Location
Skyrail’s Caravonica Terminal is located just 15 minutes from Cairns and 50 minutes from Port Douglas and provides a convenient embarkation or disembarkation point.
Skyrail Rainforest Cableway operates daily from 9.00am to 5.15pm and is open every day except Christmas Day and during planned, preventative maintenance (for more information, please visit www.skyrail.com.au/notices.html ).
Educational Group Packages
Educational packages are available for groups by advance booking and can be tailored to suit your requirements and interests. Packages include:
Interpretive Ranger Option: One of Skyrail's qualified Rangers will meet your group at Skyrail and escort you on the 7.5km cableway through the Barron Gorge National Park, explaining the history of these ancient rainforests. Alight at the two rainforest mid-stations, where the Ranger will take you on an environmental and historical journey through the forest.
Rainforest Link: Make a contribution to rainforest regeneration, while learning about native species during Skyrail's Rainforest Link package. You can plant a rainforest tree, contributing to regeneration and providing a habitat for native animals, before enjoying a Skyrail experience.
Nature Link: A Skyrail Ranger will explain the history, evolution, World Heritage values and flora and fauna of Australia's Tropical Rainforest in this lecture-style presentation. Delivered on-site or at a mutually convenient venue, Nature Link provides a comprehensive introduction to the rainforest which is then complemented by a Skyrail experience.
Sustainability Seminar: Skyrail is a world leader in sustainable operations, won the inaugural Qantas Australian Tourism Award for Excellence in Sustainable Tourism and is the only company in Australia to have Green Globe Gold certification, in recognition of over six years of world's best practice. Learn how Skyrail is sustainable, and how these principles can be implemented at other operations, before enjoying a Skyrail experience.
